Dave McGrath
Team Member 2017 - 2020 & 2024 - Current
David is a 48-year-old architect living in Lansing Michigan. Originally from Bay City Michigan, he first got involved in sports by joining the school swim team, competing in the breaststroke and individual medley, and also the track team, competing in the 200m and 400m dash. After high school, he attended Lawrence Technological University, and while studying architecture, developed an interest in weightlifting. Years later, while at a swim lesson at the YMCA with his wife and 2 daughters, David stumbled into triathlon by mere chance, since athletes were there swimming as well. The first event he attempted was the Hawk Island Sprint triathlon in 2013, and after that it was on to Olympic and Half-Iron distances, as well as running events ranging from 5k to marathon. In 2019, David decided to return to college to complete a master’s degree in architecture, so he could pursue licensure. That was completed by early 2023. During that time, a minor injury sidelined his triathlon season, so he hit the weight room once again, instead of racing. Besides fitness, David enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, traveling to events, playing games, and volunteering for numerous school activities.
2025 GOALS
The main goal for the season is to stick with the heavy lifting and stay with the sprint distance triathlons. First up was Greenville’s sprint triathlon in June. Other possible races could be, either a relay, or MiTi Sprint triathlon in August. Speed is irrelevant this year, with staying injury free as the top priority, as well as strength training.
